Analysis of the First Sunday

A look at the opportunities for steals on Tuesday. First a couple comments on guys no one is going steal. How in the how did New England get so much freaking talent. If Moss doesn’t pull a TO then this offense will be unstoppable. Cancel all your other plans for November 4th because NE takes a trip to Indy for what promises to a game with a touchdown or two.

That Tony Romo fellow hold his starting position for a while longer. How about Chris Brown? Congratulations to those who gambled on him.

Adrian Peterson in Minnesota had a huge game. Chester Taylor, who I’ve plugged, went out with a hip injury. I still think he is a quality runner but wow, it looks like Peterson will be getting the touches.

Opportunities

If you have an open slot I would pick up Derrick Ward who ran well for the Giants after Brandon Jacobs went out with a knee injury. Jacobs is expected to be out for 3-5 weeks so unless Ward implodes, he will make a very able bye week back for yourself or someone you can trade with. He may come to be worth a decent Receiver.

I Digress now. As a historic Giants fan, I had a hard time dealing with a guy that weighs 285 pounds resorting to the QB slide when it’s fourth and four at crunch time in the game. For those of you who missed the game, Manning went out late in the game with it still in reach and out came 6′4″, 285 pound Jared Lorenzen. Think Jared before discovering Subway. Okay, fourth and 4 well into the fourth quarter and he can’t find a guy open. He scrambles and looks to have the first down in he would simply lean his robust frame forward but instead he slid. Needless to say I contributed hardily to the swear jar last night. Anyway…

I still think Tatum Bell is a steal if you can still get him. Speaking of the Lions Raiders game, go grab Ronald Curry. He is probably available in a lot of leagues and I know this because I dropped him in one of my leagues. Granted I think this will be the best game of the year for him as he will get the double team from here out, but he could have been traded at a high value this week.

You have to love 2 games on Monday night and yes, I am ready for some football.

Notable Injuries for Week 1

The big day is tomorrow. Some of you may be locked out changing your lineup because a game has been played but other leagues let you make changes to any player who has not played. If you are in the later group, its time to make your adjustments to your line up.

Here are the injuries of note for fantasy owners:

Denver Broncos at Buffalo Bills:

Stephen Alexander TE Calf Questionable

Daniel Graham is looking like a good start

Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers:

L.J. Smith TE Groin Probable
Donald Driver WR Foot Probable
Greg Jennings WR Hamstring Questionable

Keep an eye on the other receivers getting a chance this week in Green Bay

Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings:

Bobby Wade WR Ankle Probable
Robert Ferguson WR Ankle Questionable

A lot of people are big on Bobby Wade as a sleeper pick.

New England Patriots at New York Jets:

Tom Brady QB Right Shoulder Probable
Chad Pennington QB Pelvis Probable
Thomas Jones RB Calf Questionable

I’m guessing we won’t see Marques Tuiasosopo or Matt Cassel unless it’s a blowout. Leon Washington will certainly have his chance to prove that he should still be the starter.

Carolina Panthers at St. Louis Rams:

Drew Bennett WR Thigh Questionable

Its too bad that the Rams have no other receivers to fill Bennett’s spot if he can’t go :-)

Miami Dolphins at Washington Redskins:

Clinton Portis RB Knee Probable

Detroit Lions at Oakland Raiders:

Kevin Jones RB Foot Doubtful

I still think there will be a good tier 2 running back in Detroit this season. I think it will be Tatum Bell but I will admit I have Kevin Jones sitting on my bench on one team.

Chicago Bears at San Diego Chargers:

Muhsin Muhammad WR Ankle Probable

When you are in your 12th year you know how to play through pain.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys:

Terry Glenn WR Knee Out

Like you needed a reason to start TO. Wow, watch out.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals:

Mark Clayton WR Ankle Probable
T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR Knee Probable

I wouldn’t bench either of these guys.

Thats it for this week. Rest up, we have a big day tomorrow

Game 1 2007 Analysis

I love that we get our first Game on Thursday instead of having to wait. I also hate it because now there is nothing to do but over analyze the info from the one and only game this season.

I promise you there are people actually dropping Drew Brees right now. Grab him if they do. I was on pins and needles when I saw Marvin Harrison looking like not only Manning’s favorite but only target and Reggie Wayne with nothing but a fumble on his box score. Wayne is on two of my teams and needless to say, as if to reinforce the lesson, patience payed off and he ended up outscoring Harrison.

The Colts defense certainly looked better than everyone said they would. Time will tell here as well but to me a bad defense as in last year, is an aberration under Tony Dungee.

I took some flack from some friends for calling Anthony Gonzalez over hyped at this point. I feel vindicated by the fact that he did not catch a ball in a game where his offense scored 41 points. He will be good, but wait until his stock is down to pick him up. Now would be good if you can waste a roster spot until mid season when he start to gel.
